There are always a number of major projects which need to be completed. The timing
depends upon a number of things -
The next major job is to remove the two remaining Sweeps (sails) to replace the broken or missing shutters and examine the Stocks and Wedges. The two outer ones have been repaired but cannot be replaced until the inner ones have been repaired and replaced.
Once work on replacing the Shutters is finished arrangements will be made to repair the cap. It is possible the cap will need to be removed so that the necessary work can be completed on the ground. This work will take up to 2/3 months and involve a great deal of manpower.

The Mill does not stand still and there is always more work to be done.
All the projects need money before they can be undertaken and we rely on the assistance of the "Friends of the Mill" and our visitors to whom we are extremely grateful. If you would like to help in some small way please contact the Secretary.
Painting the Tower
This will be a massive undertaking unless we can afford to pay to have it done. Since restoration, the Mill has been painted three times and each time although it has looked wonderful for a little while, it has deteriorated very quickly. Professional advice has been sought and it would appear that the original preparation was not done properly. Because of this, the original coating of lime wash was never removed completely and is now reacting with the paint. The answer seems to be that the surface has to be sandblasted and then thoroughly prepared before being repainted. It is anticipated this will cost in the region of £10,000. The Trust does not possess this kind of money and is actively trying to obtain Grants.
Improving the Mill Store
It is hoped to insulate the roof of the Mill Store and install some form of heating to ensure that on cold days it is still pleasant to sit having refreshments. This project cannot be started until the the money is available and the Trust will be looking for whatever Grants are available in order to fund the work.
